On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am pleased to extend my thanks to the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) for another successful year in its progress toward meeting the cancer challenge.
We have to do everything we can to alleviate the burden of cancer on families by improving its prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment. Our government is proud of its investment in the OICR — in a little over a decade, the institute has become a global centre of excellence in cancer research.
Through collaborative and translational studies, the OICR is moving Ontario to the forefront of discovery and innovation in both research and practice. It demonstrates leadership in the Ontario cancer community not only through collaborative and cross- disciplinary studies, but also in its focus on moving discoveries into the clinic. The Fight Against Cancer Innovation Trust, OICR’s commercialization partner, has attracted financial and in-kind support, making it possible to accelerate new developments and bring new hope to patients. With real leadership in global collaborative initiatives, such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health, the institute is strengthening ties in the cancer research community both at home and abroad.
I am confident we will continue to see marked progress in cancer research in Ontario as the OICR continues to deliver global research excellence. I would like to thank the staff of the institute for their dedication and hard work, and wish them every success in the future.
Sincerely,
Reza Moridi
Minister
